Product Introduction

The Low Voltage Diesel Generator Set is a diesel engine generator configured to produce electrical output at low voltage levels, typically 400 V for 50 Hz systems or 480 V for 60 Hz systems, allowing direct connection to facility low voltage distribution boards without an intermediate transformer. The set consists of the diesel engine, low voltage alternator, control panel, cooling system, fuel system, and base frame, assembled as an integrated unit for indoor or outdoor installation. Low voltage output is suitable for standby power, prime power, and continuous power applications at facilities where the load is served by low voltage distribution equipment. Engine speed is set at 1500 rpm for 50 Hz output or 1800 rpm for 60 Hz output, with electrical output ranging from 20 kW to 2,000 kW depending on the model. The control panel manages engine start and stop, alternator excitation, synchronization with the utility or other generator sets, and protection functions. Low voltage configurations are widely deployed at commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing facilities, and remote sites where the distribution network operates at low voltage and where direct connection simplifies the electrical interface.

Three Common Low Voltage Configurations

Standby

Standby Power Supply

Automatic start on utility failure, supplying critical loads through an automatic transfer switch. Sized for the essential load list and typically operated intermittently with no parallel operation to the grid.

Prime

Prime Power Supply

Continuous operation as the primary power source at sites without utility supply, rated for variable load over unlimited annual hours with allowable average load at the prime rating.

Parallel

Grid Parallel Operation

Synchronized operation with the utility network for peak shaving, load management, or export. Requires protection coordination, synchronization equipment, and compliance with utility interconnection requirements.

Where Low Voltage Output Is Specified

Commercial Buildings

Office buildings, shopping centers, and hotels where the distribution network operates at low voltage and where standby power is required for life safety and essential services.

Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities

Healthcare facilities requiring standby power for operating rooms, intensive care units, and life support equipment, with automatic start on utility failure.

Data Centers

Data centers using low voltage distribution for IT loads and cooling equipment, with standby generation capacity sized to match the critical load list.

Manufacturing Facilities

Manufacturing plants and warehouses with low voltage distribution, using standby or prime power for production equipment and building services.

Remote Sites and Telecom

Telecom sites, remote pumping stations, and isolated facilities using prime power diesel generation as the primary electrical source.

Events and Temporary Power

Construction sites, events, and temporary facilities using containerized or trailer-mounted low voltage generator sets for temporary power supply.

Engineering and Application Questions

Standby vs prime rating selection
Standby rating applies to intermittent operation during utility outages, with limited annual hours and no overload capability. Prime rating applies to continuous operation as the primary power source, with an allowable average load over the operating period. Confirm the intended duty cycle and expected annual operating hours during the project specification phase.
Automatic transfer switch coordination
The automatic transfer switch coordinates the start signal to the generator set, transfers the load from utility to generator, and returns the load to utility on restoration. Verify the transfer switch rating, transition type (open or closed), and control logic against the facility load list and utility restoration requirements during the design phase.
Load bank testing for standby applications
Standby generator sets operating at light load for extended periods may experience wet stacking and incomplete combustion. Periodic load bank testing at rated capacity is recommended to verify performance and to maintain combustion condition. Confirm the recommended load bank test interval and capacity during the project specification phase.
Parallel operation with utility network
Parallel operation requires synchronization equipment, protection coordination with the utility, and compliance with the utility interconnection requirements at the project location. Confirm the utility interconnection requirements, protection settings, and metering arrangements during the project specification phase.
Fuel storage sizing and autonomy
Fuel storage capacity is sized to the required autonomy period at the rated load, based on the engine fuel consumption rate. Base tanks, day tanks, and external bulk storage configurations are available depending on the autonomy requirement and site constraints. Confirm the required autonomy period and fuel delivery arrangements during the project design phase.
Acoustic requirements and site noise limits
Soundproof canopy and containerized enclosures are available with acoustic attenuation treatment to reduce noise emission. The specific noise level at a defined distance depends on the configuration and the site layout. Verify the acoustic specification against applicable site noise requirements during the project specification phase.
Remote monitoring and unattended operation
The control panel can be configured with remote monitoring interfaces for supervising operation from a central control room or mobile terminal. Automatic start and stop functions, alarm and shutdown signal transmission, and site environmental monitoring are configured according to the site operating model. Verify the communication link and alarm signal transmission during commissioning.

Operation and Maintenance

Fuel
Verify fuel level and fuel quality at the start of each shift, and drain water and sediment from the fuel tank at scheduled intervals.
Lubrication
Check engine oil level at the start of each shift and replace oil and oil filter according to the maintenance schedule or oil analysis results.
Cooling
Check coolant level and condition at the start of each shift, and inspect the radiator for blockage or debris accumulation at scheduled intervals.
Starting
Check battery voltage and terminal condition at scheduled intervals, and test the automatic start function under load conditions according to the site procedure.
Electrical
Inspect cable terminations, circuit breaker condition, and protection relay settings at scheduled intervals, and record insulation resistance values for trend analysis.
Records
Record operating parameters, alarm history, and maintenance activities for each run to support fault diagnosis and maintenance planning.
